AMD added Athlon X2 5200+ CPU to a desktop microprocessor line up on their website. Like two other members of Athlon X2 family with part numbers AD5000OGJ22GI and AD5000ODJ22GI, the 5200+ model is based on newer technology than now obsolete Athlon X2 7xxx series of CPUs.

Dual-core Athlon X2 5200+ CPU is built on 45nm core, runs at 2.3 GHz, and has 1 MB level 2 cache. The 5200+ comes with C3 core stepping, and it works in socket AM3 motherboards. Judging by processor's part number, AD5200OCK22GM, we suspect that the CPU is based on Regor core, and has 1 MB L2 cache disabled. If our suspicions about the Regor core are true then the Athlon X2 5200+ won't be as popular with computer enthusiasts as the above mentioned Athlon X2 5000+ microprocessors, many of which could be unlocked into quad-core Phenom II CPUs with 6 MB L3 cache.
